Naki Depass: A Jamaican Model’s Adventure Down Under

Naki Depass, a name that resonates in the fashion world, has taken a bold step in her career by moving from the bustling streets of New York to the sun-kissed shores of Australia. The SAINT International top model, known for her stunning looks and vibrant personality, decided it was time for a new adventure. “I wanted a taste of life on the other side of the world,” she shared during a recent call from Sydney, where the time difference from Jamaica is a whopping 16 hours.

The idea to relocate wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision. It was planted by her model manager, Deiwght Peters, the head of SAINT International. “He proposed the idea and introduced me to the Chadwick Models team here in Australia,” Naki explained. Her excitement was palpable as she spoke about her new journey. “I was definitely on board with the idea and to stay for a while.”

After signing her contract with Chadwick Models in December, Naki touched down in Australia last month and wasted no time diving into work. Her first project? An editorial shoot for the March edition of ELLE Australia, photographed by Edward Mulvihill. “We did the shoot in a beautiful house in Bayview,” she recalled, her eyes lighting up at the memory. “It was my first time working with both Edward and Naomi Smith, the stylist, but I knew it was going to be incredible.”

Naki is no stranger to the spotlight, having graced the pages of prestigious magazines like Vogue Mexico and Harper’s Bazaar. In fact, she recently made the digital cover of the August 2023 issue of Harper’s Bazaar Brazil. With her impressive portfolio, it’s no wonder she’s been busy with near-daily fashion projects in Australia, although she remains tight-lipped about her specific clients. “I’m happy with how everything is going so far,” she said, reflecting on her experiences.

Currently enjoying Australia’s summer season, Naki finds herself embracing the warm weather and tropical vibes reminiscent of home. “It’s feeling a bit like home in terms of the nice beaches they have,” she said, expressing her joy in connecting with new friends and exploring her surroundings during her days off. However, her busy schedule has left little time for sightseeing just yet.

While many models are caught up in the whirlwind of Fashion Month, Naki chose to take a break from the runway this season. “I enjoy doing the shows, but I’m also enjoying what I’m doing at the moment,” she explained. “It’s 50-50. I decided to skip this season and be here in Australia instead, but I still watch the shows and keep up with what’s going on.”

Naki’s wanderlust isn’t new. Before her Australian adventure, she spent months in Greece, where she worked with Ace Models. “Greece was lovely,” she reminisced, recalling her breathtaking trip to Santorini. “I would definitely like to take another trip there for a vacation.”

Having started her international modeling career at just 17, Naki embodies the spirit of a true jet-setter. “I love traveling for sure,” she said, her enthusiasm shining through. “It’s exciting to experience different cultures and explore different parts of the world.” For now, she’s focused on her work in Australia, ready to see where her journey takes her next.

As Naki continues to make waves in the fashion industry, one can’t help but wonder: what other adventures await this talented Jamaican model?
