Jamaican Cricket Set for a Major Comeback
Jamaican cricket is on the brink of an exciting revival, thanks to a new ownership group that has pledged over US$3 million to launch professional franchises in both the men’s and women’s regional Twenty20 leagues. New Investment, New Opportunities
Minister of Sport Olivia Grange recently announced that Kingsmen Sports Enterprise, a United States-based company owned by businessman Fawad Sarwar, will finance the creation of Jamaica-based teams in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL). This commitment includes an annual investment of approximately US$2.75 million for the men’s team and US$500,000 for the women’s team.
“Cricket is more than just a sport for us; it’s a part of our culture,” Grange said during a session of Parliament. “This investment will help us nurture our talent and bring cricket back to the forefront in Jamaica.”
A Historic Venue Welcomes Back the CPL
Adding to the excitement, Sabina Park in Kingston is set to host CPL matches for the first time in six years. Four matches are scheduled at this iconic venue, marking a significant return for local cricket fans. “It’s been too long since we’ve had CPL matches here,” Grange noted. “This is a chance for our fans to support our teams right at home.”
Support Amidst Challenges
In a show of solidarity, CPL organizers have waived the usual hosting fees for Jamaica this year, a decision made in light of the recent impact of Hurricane Melissa. “This gesture shows that cricket is a community sport,” Grange explained. “We’re all in this together, and we want to ensure that our cricketing community can thrive.”

Beyond professional leagues, the investment is set to strengthen grassroots cricket initiatives across Jamaica. Kingsmen Sports Enterprise has committed to nurturing young talent, ensuring that the future of Jamaican cricket is bright. “We want to build a strong foundation for our youth,” Grange emphasized. “With the right support, we can develop the next generation of cricket stars.”

The ambitions of Kingsmen extend far beyond just operating franchises.
