‘The Summit’ Champion Punkin Jackson Discusses Portraying ‘Honest and Loyal’ in CBS Competition Series (Exclusive)

Punkin Jackson’s Journey to the Summit: A Candid Reflection on Reality TV’s Latest Adventure

The season finale of The Summit, which aired on December 4, marked a significant milestone for the show and its contestants. Among the three remaining trekkers who reached the pinnacle of the Summit was Punkin Jackson, a 33-year-old Air Force captain known for her straightforward approach and strategic gameplay. In an exclusive interview with PopCulture.com, Jackson opened up about her experience on the show, her motivations, and the strategies that led her to success.

The Climb: A Determined Spirit

When asked about her mindset at the beginning of the two-week journey, Jackson expressed unwavering determination. “I knew I was going to do whatever it took to get to the Summit,” she shared. Despite her lack of prior climbing experience, she was resolute in her commitment to reach the top. “I’ve never climbed around before, but I have heights. So I’m going to do whatever it takes to make sure I’m one of those people standing at the top of the Summit,” she added, showcasing her tenacity and willingness to embrace challenges.

Facing Doubts and Fears

Throughout the competition, Jackson faced moments of uncertainty, particularly when her close ally, Geoff, was eliminated. “Honestly, the only time I got a little scared was when Geoff went home,” she recalled. The fear of being the next target loomed large, but Jackson quickly adapted. “Once I survived that and I got brought into an alliance, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m good as long as I keep my head down; I play pretty honest and loyal,’” she explained. Her ability to navigate the social dynamics of the game proved crucial in her journey.

The Power of Honesty and Strategy

Jackson’s gameplay was characterized by honesty and a keen sense of character judgment. “I feel like I’m a very good judge of character, and so that was easy,” she said, reflecting on her alliances. Her bond with Geoff stemmed from shared backgrounds, while her partnership with Beckylee was built on mutual trust from the very beginning. Jackson emphasized the importance of listening over talking, which allowed her to gauge the intentions of others effectively. “I did way more listening than I did talking, and so I was able to kind of see and hear what was going on,” she noted.

The Impact of Military Background

Interestingly, Jackson chose to keep her military background under wraps during the competition. “I think being able to keep my military experience to myself played in my favor,” she explained. She was aware that preconceived notions about military personnel could influence how others perceived her. By allowing her personality to shine through first, she aimed to avoid any biases that might arise from her profession. “I wanted people to get to know me first, and then if they found out I was military, that was an extra addition,” she stated.

Reflecting on the Experience

Watching the series unfold alongside the audience has been a unique experience for Jackson. “It’s been interesting because we’re watching it along with everyone else,” she remarked. While she was aware of many events, some aspects, like the dynamics behind Geoff’s elimination, surprised her. “The only thing that was really, really shocking to me was the Geoff vote,” she admitted, highlighting the complexities of the game.

Regrets and Motivations

When asked about any regrets, Jackson maintained a positive outlook. “I don’t think so. The only thing that I wish could have been different was it would have been me, Beckylee, at the top of the mountain,” she said. However, she firmly believes that everything happens for a reason. Her primary motivation throughout the competition was her family. “My wife and I wanna start a family. IVF is expensive,” she shared, emphasizing that the monetary prize was a significant motivator, but not the only one. “I wanted to show people especially, people that look like me, you can do these types of things, but you can also do it while being yourself,” she concluded, underscoring her commitment to authenticity.

The first season of The Summit is now streaming on Paramount+, inviting viewers to experience the thrilling journey of its contestants, including the inspiring story of Punkin Jackson.
