TTMA Launches Trade Mission to Jamaica

TTMA Takes Bold Steps: Trade Mission to Jamaica

In an exciting development for regional trade, the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association (TTMA) has embarked on a significant trade mission to Jamaica, starting May 12. This initiative is not just a routine visit; it’s a strategic move aimed at strengthening ties between the two Caribbean nations.

A Diverse Delegation

Leading the mission is TTMA CEO Dr. Mahindra Ramesh Ramdeen, accompanied by vice president Emil Ramkissoon. Together, they represent a robust delegation of 22 companies spanning various sectors. From food and beverage to technology services, the range of industries involved showcases the rich tapestry of Trinidad and Tobago’s manufacturing capabilities.

Emil Ramkissoon, the vice president of TTMA, expressed enthusiasm about the mission, stating, “This is a fantastic opportunity for our local businesses to showcase their products and services. We’re looking to create lasting partnerships that benefit both Trinidad and Jamaica.”

Expanding Horizons

This year’s mission marks a return to Kingston, following a successful trip in 2022. However, it’s not just about revisiting old connections. The TTMA is also planning business-to-business meetings in Montego Bay, which opens up new avenues for commercial engagement. This expansion reflects a growing recognition of Jamaica as a vital market for Trinidadian goods.

The mission aims to foster export opportunities and create long-term partnerships. “We believe that by working together, we can enhance trade and economic growth in the region,” Dr. Ramdeen noted in a recent press release.

Recent Trade Initiatives

The TTMA’s commitment to regional trade is evident in its recent activities. Earlier this year, the association, alongside the Ministry of Trade, led 29 companies on a four-day trade mission to Dominica. They even organized a unique “trade mission on the seas,” where businesses toured several Caribbean islands, including Barbados and Puerto Rico. These efforts underline the TTMA’s proactive approach to expanding Trinidad and Tobago’s market presence.

Looking Ahead

The TTMA isn’t stopping with Jamaica. Plans are already in motion for future missions to Guyana, Suriname, Chile, China, and New York later this year. This ambitious agenda highlights the association’s vision for a more interconnected Caribbean economy.

Local business owners are optimistic about these developments. “It’s about time we strengthen our regional ties,” said a small business owner from Port of Spain. “We have so much to offer each other, and these missions are a step in the right direction.”

A Bright Future for Trade

As the TTMA sets sail for Jamaica, the excitement is palpable. This mission is not just about trade; it’s about building relationships, sharing cultures, and creating a brighter economic future for both nations. With the Caribbean’s rich diversity and potential, one can only wonder: what new opportunities will arise from this renewed partnership?
